About
Diwali
|
|
| |
|
|
Diwali is commonly known as the “Festival
of Lights”. The “Festival of Lights”
reflects back to the practice of lighted oil
lamps placed all around the home, in courtyards,
and in the gardens. Little earthenware cups
the size of a palm are filled with oil and
a cotton wick is lit so that the oil burns
until the oil is used up. Diwali is associated
with many sacred events. Some cultures celebrate
Diwali as the renewal of life with the coming
of the sowing season, with families wearing
new clothes and the distribution of sweets
and cakes during this season. Read

Health Benefits of Pumpkins
 |
|
| |
|
Eating pumpkins this fall might sound just right
for weight watchers! Pumpkins are very low in
calorie and are very rich in potassium. They
contain high levels of antioxidants and carotenes,
notably vitamin C
and E, which lower cancer risk, heart disease,
cataracts and strokes. They are also a good
source of calcium and fiber. Also, pumpkin seeds are high in protein, potassium, magnesium,
zinc, iron, copper and essential fatty acids.
They have been found effective in helping people
infested with tapeworm and roundworm. Pumpkins
can be stored for a long time since they are
hard-skinned.

What's In Season?
|
|
| |
 |
Kabocha is a type of squash
found in Japan and is also called
the "Japanese pumpkin."
It has a hard green exterior,
is yellow-orange colored inside
and tastes very sweet. It is
abundant in beta carotene,vitamin
C, iron and potassium. It also
contains folic acid,
calcium, and vitamin B. Once
kabocha is cut open, it can
grow mold very easily. So, the
best way to store them is to
cut them up in pieces, and then
freezing them. |
