Sake does not contain any fat, cholesterol, caffeine or nitrates. It also does not have sulfites, and is thus an excellent replacement for those who like white wine but have an allergic response to sulfites that cause asthma-like symptoms. Moderation is the key to both enjoying the taste and the health benefits of sake. Consuming a moderate amount of sake has been linked to lower risks from diseases of the cardiovascular system. Over consumption of sake like all other alcohols is harmful to the body.

Star fruits are crunchy, and have a slightly tart, acidic, sweet taste. They consist of a tough outer skin and a tangy white inside. When cut across, it shows a 5-pointed (sometimes 6-pointed) star shape, hence are named, "star fruit." There are two varieties of star fruit – acidulate and sweet. The sweet ones can be eaten out of hand or sliced and used as a garnish or in salads. Their juice can be used in tropical drinks and smoothies. Star fruits are a good source of vitamin C, thus it is known to have helped asthmatic patients. While buying star fruits, look for shiny yellow ones that are without bruises and are not too soft. Tightly wrap star fruits in a plastic bag and store in the refrigerator. |
